Most people take Thanksgiving week off to rest and relax.  If you know me then you know that this is a hard thing for me to do.  Since Friday I have finally got around to totally clearing out the 2nd bedroom, consolidating everything in the downstairs storage area, sell $200 worth of brass ammunition online, and totally refurb one of my old shelving units to a very presentable piece of furniture.

Manroom

I am quite proud of the bookcase and how it turned out.  I actually salvaged all of the material in various ways.  The wood is actually the bleachers from UTC’s gym.  They paid me to disassemble them and allowed me to keep the wood.  Part of it went to floor the storage shed at my parent’s house.  The rest went to make two sets of really heavy duty shelves.  They are solid 1 1/8″ Douglas fir planks. I made the initial shelves several years ago to fit in my downtown apartment.  Aside from some time at Michael and Kim’s apartment they went in the storage room for several years.  The wood used to trim the shelves is some pine that was dumped on the side of the road.  I stained the trim to match the floors, coated them with several layers of linseed oil, and clad them on the old shelving units.

The only problem I had with making the shelves was during painting.  Latex paint and cold weather don’t mix.  Since I can not wait till spring to paint or paint inside due to the fumes (baby + fumes = bad) I had to create a paint booth in the carport.

I attached a hairdryer to one end and it brought the bench to 64 degrees. More than enough to paint.  Outside temperature was 42 and raining.   The next day it was installed in the man room.

I love the man room.  It is serves as a library, entertainment area, server room, office, gunshop, music room, and refuge for the kitty cat when baby soon arrives.  The only problem with the man room is that it is an adult only area with respect to practically everything in it being dangerous to children.  Guns, knives, kitty-poo, electrical equipment, poisonous chemicals, slick floors, sharp corners, etc.  Oh well

The other projects undertaken this week weren’t as dramatic.  Having a clean & organized storage room downstairs is a great thing.  It will come in very handy next year.  The 2nd bedroom is ready to decorate for baby, but we are going to wait till after the holidays in case people need a place to sleep.  I also mulched all the leaves in the yard.

I need to go back to work so I can get some rest!

Sunrise

This is my first post…, I have been listening to a lot of music lately, which is not abnormal for me. My favorite, and one I can always listen to is Norah Jones. She puts into words, what I am feeling sometimes, that I cannot express myself. Any who, other than that I have just been doing the normal stuff. I did laundry all day yesterday, and it was raining so no big bummer there.

I went out with Megan today and we ate at Blue Coast Buritto…(sorry if i spelt burritto wrong, and twice at that)…I ate two rice and bean burritto’s, and some queso and chips. We had a good time.

Um, I went into a couple of my favorite stores today. I went to American Eagle, Areopostale, and PacSun. Even though I live in Tennessee, I am a beach girl at heart. I am looking forward to family trips, going to the beach of course…and I know that we will be going to other neat destinations too. Matt, always plans a good vacation. As long as there is some sort of cute boutique with clothes in it, I am game. That sounds pretty sad doesn’t it. Oh, well, I love to shop, I won’t deny it.

If I have a girl, I have been daydreaming about her riding horses, and learning how to be a good shot, and I have also been thinking about her being in a dance class, or even playing soccer, but of course it will be whatever her interest will be.

If I have a boy, I have been thinking about sports mostly, but not like football, or anything. For some reason I have been thinking about sailing or surfing, but it will probably be more like biking and hiking, which will be just as fun.

I guess that is too far into the future to look, but I like to dream about things like that.

The adventures of Matt and Richell…and a baby. Ha!

I guess I can report, that I only have two pairs of pants that fit me right now. They are ones that Matt’s mom bought me, and they are very comfortable. It was very hard for me the other day not to be able to wear my favorite old navy kahkis, I kind of had a little temper tantrum, and almost some tears, until I rationalized it.

It is a little difficult for me to bend down now, and it is getting a little difficult for me to put on my shoes. I had been watching a lot of t.v., and basically just hanging around the house.

I am looking forward to the holidays. For this Thanksgiving, we are eating at my mom’s…and then on Friday we are eating in Nashville, so that means I am covered, and I am going to eat lots of food.

I have been having to take one day at a time, because if I do not, it scares me, just a little. I know I will be fine, and I have lots of people praying for me.

On a funnier note, I was watching Father of the Bride 2, the one where the mom and the daughter are pregnant at the same time, and I called my mom crying for some reason, I was very emotional, at the time though my sappy tears felt valid. I had Matt go out and by me some brownies after that, and he got him some porkgrinds. It is kinda funny now that I look back on it, seeing as it was just this past Sunday night.

I think that is all I have left in my head to write. Goodnite…

And so it begins…

Ian and Susan’s blog about little Olive was a hit.   I suppose that it would be a good idea to follow in those footsteps.  This blog will give Richell something fun to do while at home.  It is also a tool that I can use to brag at work without having to tell the same story over and over again.

We are already 12+ weeks along and doing fine.  Richell got off to a bumpy start, but now seems to be taking it all in stride.

And so it begins.
